Michael B. Jones
Michael is President of TMA BlueTech – a non-profit industry association founded in 2007 in San Diego. TMA is a leading voice for BlueTech nationally and internationally. Its Mission Statement is “Promoting Sustainable, Science-Based Ocean & Water Industries”. Originally focused on San Diego – the largest U.S. BlueTech (ocean and water tech) cluster – it has a growing number of members in the U.S. and abroad. TMA is helping promote the creation of regional clusters globally and helped form the BlueTech Cluster Alliance that today has 10 leading BlueTech clusters from 8 countries.

TMA is a multi-year Strategic Partner with the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration. TMA was chosen by NOAA IOOS (Integrated Ocean Observing System) program office to co-author the first-ever study on the economic impact of the ocean observation sector in the U.S. published in early 2016. In Fall 2016, TMA received a multi-year Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) award from the International Trade Administration (ITA) to organize the 1st ever U.S. Maritime Technology Export Initiative.

Michael received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona in 1973, having spent his junior year in Freiburg, Germany. He earned a Master’s Degree from the Johns Hopkins University “School of Advanced International Studies” (SAIS) in 1977. His graduate studies included a year in Bologna, Italy; a year at the Catholic University in Lima, Peru; and an internship at the European Community headquarters in Brussels. During his senior year at SAIS, Michael worked at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC—U.S. government political risk insurer for offshore investment) in Washington, D.C.

Michael is Founder and President of ProFinance Associates, Inc., a boutique Broker-Dealer firm founded in 1985, focused on corporate finance and M&A. He is an ex-officio Board member of the Maritime Museum of San Diego and a member of the Board of Governors of the Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS). Michael has sat on a number of corporate Boards of Directors including one American Stock Exchange company. Michael speaks five languages and has traveled extensively.
